Your stay
Your stay

This tour will involve staying at different accommodations during the course of the journey. During the ski adventure , spend nights at the cosy Juva cabin, one of guests' favourite to experience the Svalbard wilderness modern trapper's style. While in Longyearbyen, you can enjoy a relaxing stay before and after the expedition at the Coal Miner's Cabin, which offers you an accommodation experience of the town's miners post second world war. Rebuilt with modern but shared communal facilities, a stay here takes you back to days of a miner's life.

The Experience

This is an adventure in varied terrain filled with possibilities. We will use snowmobiles to make our way to the lodge, and they can also help us get closer to the mountains we will attempt to master. We will stay in comfort at the lodge, surrounded by the raw Arctic wilderness and never-ending opportunities for fantastic downhill skiing. The Arctic landscape will be our big blank canvas, and we will explore the mountains of the Advent Valley and the surrounding areas. The mountains are easily accessible and vary from alpine descents to slower open flanks - just perfect for big swings!

Practical Information

For this expedition, all participants must be used to skiing outside of prepared slopes. Participants must bring, carry and know how to operate an avalanche beacon, spade and search probe, in addition to their skiing equipment. We will generally be up at 700 - 1000 metres above sea level each day. We can set up round trips, and/or master several peaks during the same stage. The climbs will be at a relatively easy tempo to enjoy the surroundings and save energy for the descents. All participants must be familiar with climbing peaks with skiing and safety equipment.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1

Oslo to Longyearbyen

Your expedition begins with your arrival to Oslo airport, where our flight is ready to take you to the northernmost settlement on earth. Once at capital of Svalbard, Longyearbyen, we will transfer to your hotel. Your expedition guide will meet you at the reception of your accommodation. A welcome and information meeting will be held here, before we head down to our stores. Once there, we will go through the equipment, pack our pulkas and receive instructions for use of the cooking equipment, pulkas and tent. There will be time for a quick visit to the shops and adjustment of gear if required. Accommodation at one of the town's hotel will be included.

Day 2

Longyearbyen/Postbreen

At 10 am the guide will meet you at your accommodation, and you will have a briefing to ensure your final preparations are in place. There will be time for last minute shopping before our departure from Longyearbyen. We plan for an afternoon tour to familiarise ourselves with the area we will be exploring. We will stay at 'The Jewel' of this island, the Juva cabin, where we will be able to enjoy some modern comforts in the midst of the wilderness.

Day 3

Exploring surrounding peaks

The day starts with a solid breakfast before we head out to experience the local mountains. We will explore the mountains in the inner parts of Adventdalen and the side valleys. The area offers peaks of up to 1100 metres (Skolten), with the majority at around 700 - 900m. The peaks are easily accessible and varied - from alpine descents to slower open flanks that are perfect for big swings! In the evening we will return to the lodge for the night, and the weather, snow and our sense of adventure will help us choose the next day’s slopes.

Day 4

To Longyearbyen

We spend the whole day exploring the backcountry possibilities of the area, looking for the most untouched areas and the very best snow. We return to Longyearbyen at around 6 pm, where you can check in to your accommodation for a relaxing meal and night.

Day 5
