Your Stay
Your Stay

This tour will involve staying at different accommodations during the course of the journey. While in Barrentsburg we stay at Barrentsburg hotel, the only accommodation in the entire region. Next two days we spend our nights at the cosy Juva cabin, one of guest's favourite to experience the wilderness Svalbard. While in Longyearbyen, you can enjoy a relaxing stay before and after the expedition at the Coal Miner's Cabin, which offers you an accommodation experience of the town's miners post second world war.

The Experience

Travel across glaciers and frozen fjords, between mountains and glaciers, taking us miles away from civilisation. Enjoy a rare sense of freedom on this tour as you drive across one gigantic, white glacier after another. Marvel at the enormous icebergs on the east coast – but keep your eyes open – with a bit of luck you may spot a polar bear out on the ice!

Practical Information

This tour is an expedition for adventurous souls. You must be prepared to spend long days on the snowmobile, and it is important that all participants have good physical health. Even though all our snowmobiles can carry two persons we strongly recommend that all members of the party drive their own snowmobile. It is harder to manoeuvre the snowmobile with a passenger, and due to inactivity the back passengers may become cold on longer trips.

Day wise Itinerary

Day 1

Oslo to Longyearbyen

Your expedition begins with your arrival to Oslo airport, where our flight is ready to take you to the northernmost settlement on earth. Once at capital of Svalbard, Longyearbyen, we will transfer to your accommodation. If you arrive early, make sure to explore this town and mingle with its friendly locals, before enjoying an overnight.

Day 2

Longyearbyen/Barentsburg

The tour starts in Longyearbyen, where your guide will pick you up from your hotel, and take you to our Expedition Centre for a briefing, and packing of gear. We will hop on the snowmobiles, and head towards the Russian settlement, Barentsburg, in the Grønfjord. Once there, we will check in at the Barentsburg Hotel, where we will leave some of our gear before heading out to explore the local area. Where we drive will depend on the weather and snow conditions, but generally we head for the glaciers in the Grønfjord.

Day 3

Reindalen to Brentskaret

The next day we will pack the sleds, and set course south towards to picturesque glacier, Fridtjovbreen, and Van Mijenfjord. We will drive along the fjord towards the wide, open Reindalen, the ‘reindeer valley’, before continuing towards the cosy Juva Cabin at Brentskaret. The guide will serve lunch underway, and we will make dinner together when we arrive at the cabin. Or maybe we will let the guide get dinner underway, while we relax in the fantastic outdoor sauna?

Day 4

East Coast

We will head to the east, and our goal will be to reach the big glacier plateaus before heading down onto the sea ice on the east coast of Spitsbergen. Here we will stop to enjoy a hot lunch, while we scout the ice with our binoculars, looking for the King of the Arctic. If we are lucky, we might see one of our local bears in its own element, out on the ice. The tour takes you through an impressive and varied landscape. On our return, we will stop at the cabin to collect our baggage, before driving the last 30 km back to Longyearbyen, where we expect to arrive at about 5:00 pm.

Day 5

Longyearbyen to Oslo

The adventure is over, unless we can tempt you to stay a little longer and experience more of Longyearbyen and its surrounds. Transfer to the airport for your departure to Oslo, and journey homewards. Thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you again soon!
